Just Dance

Six years ago I sat in the Carrier Dome in flip flops, wedged between Caroline and Jen Cash, eager to get out of a smelly rented robe. We were all hungover, exhausted and stressed about the sheer volume of family currently in town. It was time for Commencement and our speaker was none other than the 42nd President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton. As expected, he was a phenomenal, talking about the difference between the headline and trendline in history. Jen and Alexis fell sound asleep. Like mouth breathing, drooling asleep. Caroline's eyes kept fluttering and the FEG boys behind me were busy blowing up a huge Little Caesar's inflatable pizza. I was enraptured with his words and I soaked them in.
But with all the love I had for his speech, if this had been what we heard that day...well. Watch it. It's 10 minutes, but it sure is worth it. She did a great job.

I Wanna Dance Wit Somebody

Last night I ended up having an impromptu dance party with Katie, Liz B, a large exercise ball and old Whitney Houston.
Other people were there too.
Like Jay-Z and Beyonce.
And we also played Marry-Boff-Kill for easily two hours.
A fabulous game if you ask me.
I am easily entertained; this I know. But for a long time I didn't dance enough (much to the chagrin of people like Caroline, for whom my mad dance skills contain high entertainment value), didn't play enough, wasn't comfortable enough to go with being stupid like that. I was too self-conscious.
And to be honest I'm still not completely comfortable with it, but I'm trying.

Wild Weekend

Sorry haven't posted in a while. Here's a quick breakdown of the weekend that was:

Friday: Downtown after Five, free concert by Yo' Momma's Big Fat Booty Band and subsequent dancing-->quick bite at Bier Garden-->Salsa dancing at Mela's with Nate, John and Jane (don't be impressed, I didn't dance) --> booty dancing at Temptations til past 1. Note: I was in a tanktop, brown carrharts and old dirty rainbow flipflops. Total dancing outfit.

Saturday: Slept in--> “community festival” with Jane and Nant for hotdogs and people watching-->read, fretted, read, fretted-->downtown to meet up with Jess and her posse of drunk friends after their day at Brewgrass. I'd say 75% of downtown was Brewgrass patrons--> Dinner at Mamacita's-->decide to nix cabin camping plans with Jess and the crew. Too tired to deal with the really drunk-->On way back to car, meet up with Nate, Katherine and Andy-->French martini bar and best dessert EVER--> booty dancing at Temptations til past 1. These two occurrences I blame directly on Nate. He's so bootylicious he just has to dance.

Sunday-->Slept in-->met up with Jess and gang at Laughing Seed to say goodbye-->Get to see old high school friend Emily for the first time in, oh, 6 years or so-->wander downtown to peruse the shops--> Go home, change clothes, head to Nate's-->walk to Bier Garden to watch Redskins game with Nate, Anthony and Kara-->'Skins lose. I hate everyone-->all take cab to Ian and Tammy's for homemade piea night with whole gang-->Ride back to Nate's in the back of Katherine and Andy's station wagon-->watch episode of “Blackadder” with Nate-->booty dancing at Temptations til past 1 (no wait, that part I made up. I went home around 12:30 though.)

I'll Be Your Private Dancer

"Ladies and Gentleman of the Jury, I'd like to enter into evidence this photo as undeniable proof that Miss Spooner should be banned from public dancing, especially after the consumption of any beverages of the adult variety. Notice the bent arms close to the body, the concentration on the face, the awkward hip jutting. She calls this "the wheel." It is her only known dance move. Ladies and Gentleman, this is bad form. Have you no sense of decency? Next to her we see Carly E., an obviously gifted dancer. We see Miss Spooner not taking the cues. It is up to you, dear Jury. Stop the madness."

(special thanks to makejoefamous and his photography skills for this shot. He really is very, very talented you should check him out. And thanks to Chris and Rachel for getting married, setting up that delightfully fun night)
